English as second language

My friend and I were talking this morning about how her boyfriend’s relatives were delighted that she can speak English rather well. They thought that since she’s a Filipino, she might find it hard to communicate with them. They were surprised that she can actually converse with them without difficulty.
It’s great that here in the Philippines, English is the second language. Majority of Filipinos can speak in English and communicate with foreigners very well. English is thought in schools and is used as the main language of communication in schools, work places and even in most establishments. That’s why majority of Filipinos can converse in English naturally.
And there’s also the fact that there are so many call centers in the country now. Agents are trained to have an American twang and my friend was one of those agents. It’s a big plus for her, and with so many Filipinos who get to use this to their advantage.
