Bridging the generation gap

I talked to an older relative about a week ago and we talked about generation gap. She was telling me how she now regrets marrying and having a kid later in life. Her mom married when she was 19 and she grew up close to her. They were more like sisters than mother-daughter. She wanted the same for her and her teenage daughter but she married late and had a child much later. These days, it’s hard for her to keep up with what her daughter is going through and interested in.

But she makes an effort. When we talked, she just finished going through prom dresses 2012 because her daughter will be having her very first prom before the year ends. She wants to be able to relate to her when she starts talking about prom dresses and everything related to it.

She is also opening her mind to the many differences of her generation and this generation. There’s a lot but she’s keeping up!
