Medical transport while travelling

Vacations are a wonderful way to distress from your everyday lives and experience different cultures. However, one in two people have become sick while travelling and some have even required hospitalization. Most often when seriously ill, many hospital patients just want to go home and recuperate in familiar surroundings close to their family, friends and their physician. While many travel insurance companies and platinum cards offer good travel insurance, they have restrictions when it involves a transport emergency. Medical evacuations can cost tens of thousands of dollars and sometimes can go into hundreds of thousands-putting the patients and their family in a horrible financial bind. Thankfully there are additional insurance that can be taken out through MedjetAssist which, if the patients is 150 miles from home, will give transport to a hospital of their choice. MedjetAssist representatives will contacts doctors in the area where the member is travelling and the establish communication with their, family, friends or even employer. They will also arrange for interpretation services so that a language barrier does not affect the health decisions made. Additionally, members can send and receive emergency messages to and from relatives, friends and business associates, 24 hours a day toll free, through a team member. They will also take care of the travel details such as immunization requirements, passports and visa which insure a smoother transfer to or travel between countries. Medical emergencies and vacation are not a good combination, but with a bit of foresight they don’t have to become nightmares.
